HBO's historical miniseries John Adams is based on the life of America's second president, John Adams, and early American history. Starring Paul Giamatti, it features a strong cast. The series portrays the dramatic life of John Adams (especially in terms of its significance to Americans), particularly his contributions to the founding principles and societal foundation of the United States. The so-called principles of "freedom," "democracy," and "human rights" that the United States upholds all originated during John Adams' presidency.
