In the 1980s, a 12-year-old boy named Watarai Satoru (played by Gaku Hamada), who grew up in a団地 (housing complex), makes a significant decision after graduating from elementary school: he vows to spend his entire life in the fully-equipped団地 and never step out into the outside world. His mother (played by Nene Otsuka) seems to fully support this decision, not interfering but instead watching over this strange-minded boy as he grows strong and independent step by step. Years pass, and Satoru strictly follows his schedule, idolizing the Kyokushin Karate master Masutatsu Oyama and vowing to protect all his good friends in the団地. However, as time goes by, the 107 classmates from Satoru's elementary school gradually leave the団地. During this period, he and his childhood friend Matsushima Ari (played by Haru) and friends Sonoda Kenmei (played by Ayato Nagayama) and girlfriend Ogata Saki (played by Kana Kurashina) each experience life's ups and downs. The団地 gradually declines and becomes desolate, and soon, Satoru finds himself utterly alone… This film is adapted from the original work by Takehiko Kubodera.
