To facilitate job hunting, Mom takes her 7-year-old son, Xiangyu (played by Yu Chenghao), to his grandmother's house in the countryside, intending to leave him there temporarily. The grandmother (played by Jin Yifen) is elderly, cannot speak, and is illiterate. Having lived in the city all his life, Xiangyu initially struggles to adapt to the rural life where even game consoles and batteries are not for sale. He begins to express his dissatisfaction stubbornly, complaining about everything.
