What Knight (Christopher Walken) is most proud of is undoubtedly his unparalleled ability to save money; his motto of "You can live for a day on five dollars" is something he often repeats. What deeply regrets Knight is his relationship with his son Flynn (Alessandro Nivola), which can only be described as “below freezing.” An unexpected illness prompts Knight to consider repairing his relationship with Flynn, and coincidentally, Flynn is also going through a low point in his life. Thus, these two troubled men set off on a journey for medical help in a beat-up car. Along the way, Knight fully embodies his life principle — save whenever possible, which Flynn finds unbearable. However, amid a series of conflicts and misunderstandings, the father-son relationship gradually warms up.
