Jonathan (Bruno Ganz) and Lucy (Isabelle Adjani) are a loving couple living in Wismar, Germany, and they are preparing to get married, filled with nervous happiness. However, Jonathan suddenly receives news that Count Dracula (Klaus Kinski), who resides in a nearby castle, intends to purchase a house, and there happens to be one near Lucy's family home. Eager to prepare for the wedding, Jonathan goes to the house. To his disbelief, he discovers that Count Dracula is the legendary vampire. Jonathan is drained of blood by him and narrowly escapes back home. The Count, having seen a photo of Lucy, believes she is his lover from a past life. He transforms into human form and enters the house he just purchased, waiting for the right moment...
