The story takes place in a small riverside city in Hunan. Stubborn and strong-willed Xiao Jing (played by Yin Yaning) has been deaf-mute since childhood. After her parents divorced in her early years, she now lives with her grandfather and uncle (played by Yu Xuan). Years of being unable to communicate normally with others have alienated her personality, causing Xiao Jing to gradually become inscrutable, pushing her towards the boundaries of ethics and morality. Bar singer Xiao Mei (played by Wu Bingbin) is wild and unrestrained; after a fierce argument with her mother, she finds herself homeless and no longer returns home. However, the harsh reality leaves this naive girl deeply confused, not knowing how to move forward, struggling with what seems to be a strong but truly fragile heart. She does not know where warmth and solace can be found. Officer Zhang Haoyang (played by Li Qiang) feels out of place in the world; he has been a widower for many years and wishes to find a woman after his divorce from his ex-wife, but he has not met the right one. He wishes for a son, even though he once had a deaf-mute daughter... This film won the Best Film "Firebird Award" in the New Wave Film Competition at the 36th Hong Kong International Film Festival in 2012 and the Best Asian Film NETPAC Award at the 10th Vladivostok International Film Festival in 2012.
