They are an average of 81 years old, yet they hold dreams of 18 in their hearts, and they can tell you with a lifetime of experience: as long as there are dreams, there are miracles! Among the 17 seniors, 2 have had cancer, 4 need hearing aids, 5 have high blood pressure, 8 have heart disease, and every single one suffers from joint degeneration. Yet, they dream of conquering Formosa, experiencing once again this land they have coexisted with for a lifetime in their eighties. The moment they decided to ride the Euromyth, the challenge officially began: they faced opposition from their families, the difficulty of passing a test at an older age, bodily function impairments due to aging, and various severe tests such as rain, landslides, and a long 1139-kilometer journey. The day before departure, the captain even had a recurrence of gastric ulcers, and his hemoglobin continued to drop... how would he lead the Ageless Knights to complete their dream journey? "The Ageless Knights - 2008 Preview" news release: One day, when you turn eighty, how much courage do you still have to dream? The Ageless Knights say, let’s ride the Euromyth around the island. To promote active aging, encourage seniors to have dreams, and recreate the value of life, from November 13 to 25, 2007, the Hongdao Elderly Welfare Foundation held the "Challenge Eighty, Surpass a Thousand Miles - The Ageless Knights' Diary Around the Island" event. With a rallying cry from Captain Lai Qingyan: "Being old doesn't mean being useless, don't let the young look down on the elderly!" 17 Ageless Knights, with an average age of 81, decided to accomplish the historic feat of riding around the island, embodying an unprecedented ageless spirit. The foundation also filmed a documentary during the event, entrusted to the Spinning Horse Multimedia Studio for production, and completed a short preview documentary, "The Ageless Knights - 2008 Preview," ahead of the full-length release, holding multiple premieres last fall. In this short documentary, the lively and humorous interactions and dialogues of the Ageless Knights overturn the common perceptions of the elderly, bringing continuous laughter to the premiere venue, while the touching and inspiring real stories moved the audience, earning the film a 1 million NT dollar grant from the Bureau of News as recognition and support. Documentary director Hua Tianhao stated: "After growing up, I rarely talked to my grandfather, and I never thought I would make a documentary about the elderly. My six-month shooting experience with the Ageless Knights showed me their innocent and lovely sides, their abundant human warmth, rich life experiences, and their persistence and effort in pursuing their dreams, all of which left a deep impression on me. I feel honored to tell an authentic and touching story at the age of 27 about an 81-year-old." To bring more dreams and inspiration to more people, from September to December last year, the Hongdao Elderly Welfare Foundation and the Ageless Knights embarked on a nationwide premiere tour with the short documentary "The Ageless Knights - 2008 Preview," receiving enthusiastic invitations for over a hundred sharing sessions, aiming to encourage everyone, regardless of age, to have the right and ability to dream and fulfill those dreams.
