The blind masseur Zatoichi (played by Katsu Shintaro), a master of his craft, travels through the world. While passing through Kanyumachi, he is invited to massage a prince of the Kuroda family. Unexpectedly, the prince behaves erratically, and to prevent the family's disgrace from leaking out, the Kuroda family orders warriors to kill Zatoichi on his way home, but all the assassins die at his hands. While evading his enemies, Zatoichi encounters a gentle woman named Osei (played by Mizutani Yae), who reminds him of Chiyo, the one he had deeply hurt in the past. After a brief stay, Zatoichi sets off again, returning to Sasagawa to pay respects to the sake maker he had killed, while the mob leader Kanbei (played by Sawamura Sosuke), bribed by the Kuroda family, follows closely behind with his men. Meanwhile, the one-armed ronin Shirō (played by Wakayama Tomisaburo) and his little brother Sanzō (played by Nakamura Yutaka), who have deep ties to Zatoichi, linger in Sasagawa, and destiny's conflict becomes inevitable...
