The film tells the story of the one-armed swordsman Wang Gang visiting Japan to see friends, encountering a Chinese orphan, and meeting Zatoichi. Due to the language barrier, they create many humorous situations, and eventually, misunderstandings lead them to a life-and-death struggle. The blind Zatoichi is known for his lightning-fast sword-drawing technique, while the one-armed hero Wang Gang uses his unique golden sword technique and lightness skills to counter him. Ultimately, the misunderstandings are resolved, and Wang Gang sighs, "You are a good person; if only we could communicate..." Interestingly, to cater to the emotions of both fan bases, the film was released in two versions: the Japanese version titled "Blind Swordsman Breaks the Tang Sword" ends with Zatoichi taking Wang Gang's life, while the Hong Kong version called "The One-Armed Swordsman vs. the Blind Swordsman" concludes with the one-armed swordsman defeating Zatoichi.
