One summer, a 6-year-old girl named Takekawa Hotaru went to her grandfather's house for vacation, where she stumbled into the legendary forest of spirits filled with monsters. Just when she was extremely anxious about getting lost, a tall boy wearing a fox mask appeared before her and guided Hotaru back home. Although Hotaru was very grateful, the boy forbade her from touching his body, as he was not human—named Gin, he would vanish if touched by a human. In the days that followed, Hotaru and Gin became good friends, exploring every corner of the forest together. Day after day, year after year, each summer Hotaru kept her promise to meet her good friend in the forest. She adhered to their agreement, no matter what, and never touched Gin's body. As they grew older, the feelings between Hotaru and Gin quietly began to change; they both looked forward to the days of their reunion and to embracing each other...
