The aging botanist Mamia Shukichi (played by Ichirō Sugai) and his family live in the Kita-Kamakura area. His eldest son Koichi (played by Tomio Kasa) is a doctor at a hospital in Tokyo, and his daughter Noriko (played by Setsuko Hara) works at a trading company in Marunouchi, serving as the secretary to manager Santaro Satake (played by Shūji Sano). Young, beautiful, and confident Noriko has reached a marriageable age, and her friends are getting married one after another, yet she remains single. Her parents and brother are all trying to find her a match, and manager Satake introduces her to his distinguished senior, Mako. However, Noriko is secretly infatuated with her brother's colleague, Kenji Yabe (played by Hiroshi Nibenyan) — a widower with a three-year-old daughter who is in a difficult financial situation...
