In a mountain village in Xiangnan in 1996, eleven-year-old Xiao Hao decides to go to Shenzhen alone to visit his father, who hasn't come home for two years. He tells his best friends San Pang and Xiao Guang about his plan and asks them to help him raise money for the trip. The process of raising money is not smooth; he faces obstacles from his mother and misunderstandings from the villagers, but the stubborn Xiao Hao does not give up on his goal of going to Shenzhen. Soon, more friends join the fundraising effort, all with the same aim—to go to Shenzhen.
