After his wife passed away, in order to work and support the family, Dad brought 8-year-old Zhen to Grandma's house in the countryside, hoping Grandma could take care of Zhen for a summer. Grandma is elderly and not very talkative. She lovingly prepares meals for Zhen, but Zhen refuses to eat and just walks away. When Grandma washes Zhen's shoes, Zhen screams "Bad Grandma," showing her dissatisfaction and constantly complaining about life in the countryside. At a time of distress, neighbor Lifan appears in Zhen's view with his dog, Zhenzhen. Their liveliness and simplicity inspire Zhen, who begins to put down her tablet and explore the countryside with Lifan, fishing and catching cicadas. Playing with friends gradually brushes away the gloom in Zhen's heart, and she begins to adapt to and enjoy life in the countryside. Meanwhile, Grandma continues to silently care for Zhen. Seeing that Zhen likes snacks, Grandma secretly takes an empty wrapper to the town to buy some for her. On her way back, she encounters heavy rain and develops a high fever the next day. Seeing Grandma with a fever, Zhen starts to regret her earlier disdain and dissatisfaction towards Grandma and gradually understands her good intentions. The brief time together makes Zhen go from disdain to reluctance to part. Soon after, Dad comes to pick Zhen up. She says goodbye to her friends, but after getting in the car, Lifan's dog unexpectedly chases the car, barking wildly... Is Zhen's summer filled with joy and reluctance a growth after the crisis?
