The U.S. Navy submarineUSS Sea Tiger is about to be decommissioned. Rear Admiral Sherman arrives early on the submarine to review the logbook. Looking at his records from back then, the past vividly comes to mind. The general is lost in thought... At the beginning of the Pacific War, the U.S. Navy was gradually retreating in Southeast Asia. The USS Sea Tiger was nearly sunk by Japanese aircraft in port, and Captain Sherman (played by Cary Grant) has the daunting task of completing in two weeks what normally takes two months—repairing the utterly incapacitated Sea Tiger and evacuating it. However, the situation is dire, and even basic supplies are hard to come by. Lieutenant Horton arrives, whose demeanor and fashion scream of a spoiled rich kid, and he knows nothing about submarine operations; Captain Sherman feels he has gained an additional headache. Lieutenant Horton volunteers for the position of supply officer on the Sea Tiger. Unexpectedly, this position allows him to showcase his talents. He skillfully manages to arrange supplies, leading the USS Sea Tiger to set sail in thriving fashion, while the base commander is preoccupied trying to track down the thief who raided the base warehouses and his own office. Lieutenant Horton is resourceful; when the Sea Tiger sets sail with its engines still unrepaired, he hires a local witch doctor to help the submarine leave the shore smoothly. When they stop mid-journey and can’t find supplies, he opens a casino, allowing local officers to exchange base materials for chips. He is also kind-hearted; he rewards those who helped him find supplies, resulting in the presence of a convict chef who had fallen foul of military law, a group of beautiful female medics, the wives of a casino owner with protruding bellies, and a milking goat onboard. For the sake of his talent in procuring supplies, Captain Sherman grudgingly accepts these oddities. With the arrival of the beautiful medics, Captain Sherman faces even more troubles: the crew begins faking illness to enjoy the tender care; one medic, overly "busty," leads him to order that when the ladies pass through the narrow corridors of the submarine, the men must disappear; the same medic inadvertently pushes the torpedo launch button, causing a torpedo to miss an 8,000-ton Japanese oil tanker and instead strike a truck on the beach... The Sea Tiger needs anti-rust paint, and Lieutenant Horton can only find some white and red paint, resulting in the pink submarine sailing the Pacific. Neither the American nor Japanese sides know of such a submarine and both order that it be sunk immediately if discovered. The Sea Tiger encounters an American warship. Before they can greet one another, shells come flying, and Captain Sherman orders an emergency dive. However, despite all his tricks, he can’t deceive the warship into stopping dropping depth charges, as the cries of a newborn baby aboard the submarine help the warship’s sonar locate them. In a moment of extreme urgency, Lieutenant Horton suggests launching the female medics' underwear using the torpedo tube to the surface. The plan works; the warship’s commander sees the bra and concludes that Japanese women couldn’t possibly wear such a large size. The Sea Tiger is saved! In the end, Lieutenant Horton also becomes the captain of this "magical submarine."
