Before leaving the capital for Itsukushima, Taira no Kiyomori experienced the Battle of Heikō. Overnight, all of Kiyomori's residences were attacked by the anti-Kiyomori faction. Heikō took the opportunity to rescue everyone. The samurai Endō Morisuke sent Watanabe's wife, Kasa, to his brother Moritomo's mansion. Morisuke was deeply attracted by Kasa's beauty. The capital was eventually captured by the anti-Kiyomori forces, and Kiyomori's ministers were imprisoned in the dungeons of Hōsōji Temple. In this situation, Morisuke hurried to Itsukushima to report to Kiyomori. Kiyomori led his troops in a counterattack and quickly quelled the rebellion.
