The story takes place in a small town located in the Alps, where the family of Yusri (played by Jonas Hartmann) has lived for generations. They rely on their own hands to farm and sell their harvest to the village situated at the foot of the mountain to earn a living. Although life is tough and somewhat barren, Yusri feels very happy being with his family. Yusri has a unique ability; he can communicate with animals. One day, Yusri and his family take a horse-drawn cart down the mountain to sell their goods, but an unexpected event turns their entire year's labor into nothing, leaving the family with nothing but a barren winter. To make some money, Yusri is forced to sell his beloved goat to a malintent shopkeeper, but the amount he receives is far from enough.
