Erin Taylor Brodsky's debut feature film "Hear and Now" explores how hereditary deafness affects two generations in her family, winning the Audience Award at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival. This film continues the autobiographical documentary, as Brodsky's son Jonas inherited the family deafness gene and became almost completely deaf by the age of four, undergoing cochlear implantation as a child. Now 11 years old, he is already familiar with the world of sound and is learning to play Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata." Brodsky's parents also had cochlear implants, but unlike Jonas, they spent most of their lives in a silent world. As Jonas explores the meaning of silence to him, his grandfather is navigating the changes that come with gaining hearing.
