65-year-old Prague literature teacher Toklún (played by Zdenek Sverák) seems somewhat out of touch with the times. The rebellion of his students pushes him to his limits, and he loses his job when he tries to impose a small punishment. Unemployed, Toklún perhaps seeks to escape a dull family atmosphere by taking a job as a delivery man, but soon he has to quit after an accident. His married daughter recently faces emotional setbacks, and while he collects bottles in the supermarket, he also takes care of his grandson for her. His two colleagues, a retired military officer and a part-time young man, express their emotional distress in different ways, and Toklún plays matchmaker for them, being well-liked among customers too. Toklún often fantasizes about dating various women. His wife senses their growing emotional distance but feels powerless to change it. The daughter and her new boyfriend take the elderly couple on an outing, but the hot air balloon they are in suddenly loses control... This film won the Best Director award at the 2008 Czech Lion Awards, along with several other accolades.
