Adapted from a French social news event, it reflects how today's French youth, heavily influenced by American pop culture, blindly idolize America to the point of losing the true meaning of existence, through a case of teenage robbery and murder. The main characters are three young adults in their twenties: Natalie and Eric are a couple who dream of saving ten million francs to go to America and run a clothing store. They persuade their friend Bruno, who lives with them, to join in the robbery. The plan involves Natalie acting as bait to attract wealthy single men, allowing the two men to break in and rob them; however, the operation spirals out of control, resulting in a murder..... Director Bertrand Tavernier vividly portrays the nihilistic attitudes of rootless youth with a distinct modern flair and rebellious spirit, making it a superb social realism work that won the Golden Bear for Best Film at the Berlin Film Festival.
