The story takes place in the breathtakingly beautiful Provence, France. Max (played by Russell Crowe), a London securities broker, arrives here as an heir to an inheritance. Although his career is at a low point, the large vineyard and house left behind by his deceased uncle are enough for him to sell and gain a significant income. During his stay, he strikes up a pleasant conversation with a local café owner named Fanny (played by Marion Cotillard). It turns out that Fanny was Max’s playmate when he visited his uncle's house as a child. Fanny opens a door for Max, helping him to reconnect with forgotten memories, moving away from a mindset filled with numbers and the game of money. Max lets his spirit breathe in this beautiful land, gradually letting go of his past life driven by fame and profit. Just then, his uncle’s illegitimate daughter (played by Abbie Cornish) arrives from California with a clear purpose: to obtain inheritance rights to the vineyard. Will Max's recently settled life be thrown into a battle for power once again, or will beautiful days continue to unfold in this lovely place called Provence?
