"The World of Jacques Demy" is Agnès Varda's tribute to her husband Jacques Demy, as well as an engaging lesson in the history of French cinema. Agnès Varda made three films centered around Jacques Demy. In 1990, when Jacques Demy was nearing death due to illness, Varda revisited and shared his childhood – a memory she could not partake in. After Demy's passing, Varda fully articulated Demy's cinematic world through this documentary. The film includes archival interview footage, on-set documentation, reminiscences from film collaborators, actors, and fans, along with some rare historical clips, such as the classic scene of Jim Morrison, the lead singer of The Doors, visiting the set of "Donkey Skin."
