Kowalski (Barry Newman) was once a race car driver, police officer, and stuntman, now working at an auto service company. One night he prepares to deliver a Dodge "White Challenger" from Colorado to San Francisco. On the night of his departure, he makes a bet with an old friend, agreeing to call from San Francisco at 3 PM the next day.
