Kabuki actor Arashi Kyojuro (played by Nakamura Ganjiro) leads his troupe to a small town on the Shima Peninsula. Years ago, he performed here and had a son with a local woman, Ah Fang (played by Sugimura Haruko). Over the years, he has never forgotten to provide for Ah Fang and her child, and while he is pleased with his son A Qing's (played by Kawaguchi Ko) growth, he does not want him to know their father-son relationship, accompanying him only as an uncle. The troupe stays in the town for a long time, and their business goes from booming to bleak. Despite the anxiety in people's hearts, Kyojuro is unwilling to leave with his troupe.
