During World War II, retired Italian soldier Gri. Marti claimed to be a general, parading around and deceiving others, only to be captured by a German officer who exposed his identity. To save his life, Gri colluded with the Germans to impersonate the deceased General Roverei and infiltrated a concentration camp to gather intelligence. During this time, he personally witnessed and experienced the brutal torture inflicted by the Germans; at the final moment, he awakened to reality and voluntarily was executed alongside nine other prisoners, shouting "Long live Italy" as he faced death. The film stars Vittorio De Sica, born in Italy, who is an important director in the revival of Italian neorealism after World War II and a talented and charismatic actor. His film "Bicycle Thieves" (1948) is an in-depth study of the life of the working class in post-war Italy, showcasing a natural style. His significance at that time is historically very important. He devoted himself to acting in his early years, made his professional stage debut in 1923, and became a popular stage idol and singer in the 1920s. After the 1930s, he also took on directing roles. The film "Children Are Watching" directed in 1942 is significant in his directorial career and is regarded as a pioneering work of Italian neorealism, holding great value. Most of his films were scripted by Cesare Zavattini. He is undeniably a master of Italian cinema. The film is directed by Roberto Rossellini, a master of Italian neorealism alongside Giuseppe De Santis, Luchino Visconti, and Vittorio De Sica, collectively known as the four main figures of Italian neorealism. The year 1945 was a proud year for Rossellini, as he successfully filmed "Rome, Open City." In 1949, Rossellini met actress Ingrid Bergman, and they fell in love. Their daughter Isabella Rossellini has appeared on the covers of 500 magazines in 50 countries as a model. In 1985, she officially entered the American film industry after starring in "White Nights" (1985), and the following year, her bold performance in "Blue Velvet" (1986) made a huge impact, leading her to become part of Hollywood. She was married to renowned director Martin Scorsese for four years and is currently in a relationship with actor Gary Oldman.
