During his youth, Humbert (played by James Mason) had a profound experience—the tragic death of his first love left him with lingering feelings for youthful girls. Due to his job, Humbert seeks housing and meets the widow Charlotte (played by Shelley Winters) and her fairy-like daughter Lolita (played by Sue Lyon). Charlotte becomes infatuated with the elegant university professor and wishes to pursue a relationship with him; however, Humbert becomes enamored with the vivacious Lolita, even marrying Charlotte against his will to stay close to the girl. He pours all his feelings for Lolita into a diary, locking it away in a drawer. Until one day, when Charlotte opens the Pandora's box, their fates change forever… This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by Vladimir Nabokov.
