In his six years as a coach, Taylor has never won a game in the season. When the team's best player, Shiloh, decides to transfer, their hopes of winning in the new season vanish. After losing three games at the start of the season, Taylor realizes the dads have decided to fire him, and the mounting pressure leaves him completely hopeless. How will he regain his courage and confidence to overcome fear through faith? ◇ Behind the scenes: The American film "Facing the Giants" causes controversy over religious themes A film aimed at student audiences, telling the story of a high school football coach who inspires his players through his faith in God, found itself in the public eye not because of its religious message, but because of its rating. Congressman Roy Brant and many lawyers expressed their dissatisfaction when they learned that the film "Facing the Giants" was rated PG instead of G due to its religious content, and they petitioned the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) for an explanation. PG means the film is suggested for parental guidance, while G indicates the film is suitable for all ages. In his letter, Roy Brant questioned why the MPAA rated the film restrictively due to its religious content, citing a recent survey from Harvard's School of Public Health suggesting the MPAA's ability to manage content regarding sex and violence was weakening. Implicitly, he seemed to criticize the MPAA for "failing to regulate what should be regulated and improperly regulating what should not." Although MPAA officials did not respond directly to inquiries from Brant and others, in a reply to Brant, MPAA's Crickman insisted that the rating was not solely based on religious content, stating that any strong mature topics could potentially lead to a PG rating. "Facing the Giants" maturely discusses pregnancy and other mature topics; "The PG rating is to ensure parents are aware of what messages their children will receive from the film before they watch it." Congressman Martha expressed dissatisfaction with this explanation, stating they would continue to investigate the film rating process and standards, hoping to hold hearings this year. Crickman mentioned that the film's producers had no objections to the rating. Producer and Vice President of Marketing Chris stated that after discussions, officials from the association changed their story, saying, "They informed us during our first conversation that religious content was one reason for the rating."
