In Tehran, journalist Farazmand reports on the arrest of young Hossein Sabzian for fraud. It turns out that Sabzian, an unemployed painter, is a cinephile who claimed to be the famous director Mohsen Makhmalbaf, earning the trust of the affluent Ahankhah family and borrowing money from them to make a film. After the incident, Sabzian was arrested. Director Abbas Kiarostami conducted a documentary-like investigation into the case, interviewing the police, the entire Ahankhah family, and Sabzian himself. During the interrogation, Sabzian expressed regret for deceiving the Ahankhah family emotionally, but he said he did it out of a love for art, asserting that if he had money, he would truly make his own film. Moreover, impersonating director Makhmalbaf gave him confidence. In the end, the plaintiff Ahankhah family withdrew their lawsuit, and Sabzian also met the real Makhmalbaf, who took this young man on a small motorcycle to revisit the Ahankhah family.
