"Nanjohan Mountain Fortress" is adapted from the best-selling historical novel of the same name published in South Korea in 2007. Set against the backdrop of the chaotic year of 1636, the 14th year of King Injo’s reign, it tells the story of the Qing dynasty's attack on Joseon. King Injo (played by Park Hae-il) and his ministers, including Choi Myeong-gil (played by Lee Byung-hun) and Kim Sang-hyun (played by Kim Yoon-seok), are forced to retreat to Nanjohan Mountain Fortress. Isolated from the outside world for 47 urgent days, they face a dilemma. Under the strong offensive of the Qing army, Choi Myeong-gil advocates for peace to protect the lives and property of the people, while Kim Sang-hyun insists on continuing the fight against the Qing.
