The protagonist, Wilfried Wills, is an officer in Amfleur at the beginning of World War II. At that time, there were violent protests in the town, and the people generally did not trust him, but Wilfried did everything he could to avoid trouble. He received support from a German occupying force known as "the Despicable Mustache," as well as his colleague and fiercely anti-Nazi Lord, who is also the brother of his fiancée, Yvette. Wilfried must fight for survival, as the Nazi occupation and the extermination of Jews are increasingly becoming an oppressive reality.
