2012 Toronto International Film Festival competition entry, adapted from a true story, directed by Michael McGowan, starring James Cromwell and Geneviève Bujold. The eraser of my mind gradually wipes away your memories of me, but my love for you will never give up. 89-year-old Craig has been married to his wife Erin for 60 years. Their long-time home has become increasingly uninhabitable due to the elements. Craig, inheriting his father's shipbuilding skills and a hands-on spirit, decides to build a new home for his wife, who suffers from dementia. However, times have changed, and the construction methods he once used do not comply with current regulations, leading to scrutiny from a paranoid government official who repeatedly issues work stoppage orders. As his wife's condition worsens and Craig faces the threat of mandatory court appearances and even imprisonment, he is forced to make one last decision... In real life, Craig is quite confident and has a great sense of humor. He takes pride in having supported his wife and seven children through farming up until now. His lively conversation makes it hard to believe he is already over 90 years old. The director describes him: "He is the kind of person who knows everything—how to build bridges, lay roads, and even construct houses... His spirit is independent and has deeply inspired me."
