In 1964, in the Bronx, New York, at St. Nicholas School. Sister Aloysius Beauvier (Meryl Streep) is strict and feared by the students; while the newly arrived Father Brendan Flynn (Philip Seymour Hoffman) is kind and open-minded, gaining the students' affection.
