In a coastal village in Thailand, large numbers of Rohingya refugees drown by the seaside. A young fisherman discovers an unconscious man in the jungle and brings the stranger home. The rescued man doesn't say a word, and the fisherman names him Tongchai. The two men begin to live together and gradually develop a wordless bond. The shiny gems used by the fisherman to attract manta rays, also known as "devil fish," symbolize their friendship. One night, the fisherman goes out to sea on his fishing boat and never returns, leaving Tongchai alone. Gradually, Tongchai begins to take over the fisherman's life—his house, his job, and his ex-wife.
