Dr. Alfred Jones (played by Ewan McGregor), a salmon expert working for the British fisheries department, feels a deep sense of boredom and fatigue due to a midlife crisis. One day, Dr. Jones suddenly receives what seems to be an absurd task. A wealthy Yemeni Sheikh, through his young secretary Harriet (played by Emily Blunt), contacts Dr. Jones with the hope of leveraging his expertise to realize a dream of fishing for salmon in Yemen. At the same time, the British government sees great political significance in this plan, so the Prime Minister's press secretary (played by Kristin Scott Thomas) eagerly gets involved. As the project progresses, subtle changes occur between Dr. Jones and Harriet. However, faced with his lifelong wife and a boyfriend returning from war, what choices will Dr. Jones and Harriet make? What transformations will this miraculous plan undergo after the British government’s involvement? Will the Sheikh's dream of fishing for salmon in Yemen ultimately succeed? This is a story about love, faith, and choices. The film is adapted from the 2007 novel of the same name by British author Paul Torday.
