Los Angeles police surround Joe (played by Bruce Willis) and Terry (played by Billy Bob Thornton) while they are robbing a bank, leaving them no chance of escape. In that moment, memories of their past experiences come flooding back: the action-oriented Joe and the talkative Terry successfully escape from prison on a whim, and they recruit Joe's cousin Harvey to plan a bank heist to make a living. Their unique method of robbing an Oregon bank becomes sensationalized by the media, and they unexpectedly become famous as "overnight bandits." After their successful heist, the trio goes their separate ways. Not long after, a red-haired woman named Kate (played by Cate Blanchett), who has been neglected by her husband, meets Terry and inadvertently becomes part of Joe's gang, falling in love with Joe. Terry also develops feelings for Kate, and after some awkward efforts, manages to close the gap between them. Joe and Terry are on the verge of a confrontation, but Kate indicates that she loves them both together. Time spent together feels all too short, and as they continue their bank robberies, Joe and Terry find themselves reaching the end of their criminal careers... This film is based on a true story and won Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress at the 2002 Florida Film Critics Circle Awards.
