"Beauty Art" tells the story of the famous cross-dressing genius painter, Shin Yun-bok, in Korean history. Shin Yun-bok (played by Kim Min-sun) is a poor girl whose father places his hopes for the family's prosperity on her. He hides her identity as a girl and dresses her as a boy, allowing her to learn painting from the local artist Kim Hong-do (played by Kim Young-ho). She studies hard to make a living by selling her paintings to landlords. The rough merchant, Kang Mu (played by Kim Nam-gil), discovers Shin Yun-bok's female identity by chance and falls in love with her, awakening her understanding of the love that comes with being a woman. However, Shin Yun-bok's teacher, Kim Hong-do, has a peculiar relationship with his student and will not allow her to betray him, going to great lengths to prevent her from being with Kang Mu. Meanwhile, the famous courtesan, Snow Flower (played by Choo Ja-hyun), is deeply in love with Kim Hong-do. Where will these four characters end up? Can Shin Yun-bok and Kang Mu protect their love? Will her identity as a woman be revealed? Ultimately, can she change her life and become a renowned painter in Korea?
