This is one of the highest-investment and grandest classic period dramas in Japan from the 1990s, directed by veteran director Yasuo Deguchi (known for "The Railway Man" and "Station"), featuring Ken Ogata, Shinichi Chiba, Hiroki Matsukata, Yuji Nagamoto, and Tetsuro Tanba. Although the film belongs to the historical drama genre, it is somewhat different from traditional period dramas. The plot is more tightly woven, with continuous bloody killings and chase scenes that leave viewers breathless; there is not a single dull moment in the film. The film tells the story during the Tokugawa Shogunate, where Shogun Ieyasu believes his eldest son, Takechiyo, does not resemble him, leading him to consider deposing him in favor of his younger son. He sends the skilled assassin Iba Shozaemon to the northern Toshogu domain to assassinate Takechiyo. The samurai Ishikawa Kembu, under the command of the domain lord Kote, leads a group of experts to protect Takechiyo on his way to Edo, where he will confront Ieyasu...
