In 1949 Prague, the Czech people, enjoying their hard-won freedom and happiness just less than a year after liberation. Ten-year-old boy Eda and his friend Tonda live in a small town on the outskirts of Prague. Children at this age are lively and mischievous, and their class is notorious throughout the school for being a problematic one. Teacher Ms. Mašová (played by Daniela Kolárová) collapses under the torment of these bad boys, and the overwhelmed principal (played by Rudolf Hrusínský) has no choice but to enlist Igor Nízlo (played by Jan Triska), a former member of the anti-fascist resistance, to be their homeroom teacher. Clad in military uniform and armed, Igor is very strict, but his legendary experiences greatly impress the troublemakers. However, Igor is not a flawless hero untouched by the mundane; his flirtatious nature surfaces in the presence of beautiful women... This film won the Honorary Award for Best Director at the 1994 Fantasporto Film Festival in Portugal and the Golden Kingfisher Award at the 1991 Pilsen Film Festival in the Czech Republic.
