The North Korean Riki-Dozan, originally named Kim Shin-rok (played by Seol Gyeong-gu 薛景求), possessed immense strength since childhood. After being discovered by a talent scout, he traveled overseas to Japan to learn sumo wrestling. After arduous training, he finally ranked third in Japan, but his strength was not further recognized due to his identity as a North Korean. Disappointed, Riki-Dozan spent his days drinking and fighting, and during one brawl, he met an American wrestler. Thus, Riki-Dozan decided to switch from sumo to wrestling and traveled to the United States to learn. A year later, Riki-Dozan returned, bringing this relatively new sport back to Japan. He defeated American wrestlers on the ring, igniting the spirits of the downcast Japanese people in the post-war era, and overnight, he became a national hero.
