Stephen Sayadian is a renowned B-movie master from the 1980s in the United States, often mentioned in the same breath as John Waters and Russ Meyer. However, due to his limited number of works and the fact that he hasn't made a film since 1992, he does not compare in fame to those two. This film is Sayadian's most famous work. Distinct from the styles of the other two directors, Sayadian's B-movies not only depict sexuality but also possess a strong surrealistic style. He never shoots outdoors, with all scenes constructed in a studio, imbuing his films with a strong theatrical and indoor soap opera quality. The narrative is primarily fantastical, with exaggerated and manic performances from the actors, and colorful costumes. It is said that this film was inspired by the German classic expressionist film "Dr. Caligari's Cabin," which is evident in the character attire and stage set design, all showcasing a clear expressionist style. Yet, the content of the film is entirely different from the original, emphasizing horror and sexuality in a low-budget B-movie format. This makes the entire film a hodgepodge of bizarre and strange characters and scenes, with a plot that is eclectic and odd, difficult to summarize at once, but it nonetheless solidifies its status as the last classic B-cult film from the 1980s in America.
