Noboru Nakamura is a Japanese master who emerged alongside Keisuke Kinoshita, establishing his style later in his career, resulting in very little exposure overseas. He excels at capturing characters drifting through the passage of time, with a poetic depth reminiscent of poetry itself. His representative work is "Night Fragments." To commemorate Nakamura's centenary, Japan has printed a brand-new version, revealing that a style so close to "In the Mood for Love" existed beforehand. The narrative plays out across two timelines: at 19, Yoshie falls in love with organized crime, suffering from carnal desires and ending up as a courtesan; at 25, her heart is as still as water, with a captivating presence, yet she encounters a sincere admirer. As these timelines overlap, Yoshie's heart is as tangled as her fate. The web-like patterns and lateral compositions highlight the characters' inner lives, resonating interestingly with Wong Kar-wai's style. Miyuki Kanno, the actress famous for "Cruel Stories of Youth," shifts from angelic to devilish in an instant, with a screen presence that rivals that of Maggie Cheung. The film projection offers a rare opportunity.
