Alena is tired of her job as a police officer on the Pine Ridge Reservation, so she decides to stop responding to radio calls. Her niece Sadie waits in vain for her all night long. After being injured, she embarks on a fantastical journey with her grandfather's help: she traverses time and space and flies to South America. Eventually, she no longer watches those black-and-white Westerns that she cannot relate to; she feels everything has changed when she hears the dreams of the people living in the forest.
