California, Venice Beach, Dogtown, with its rough and dry streets, was a familiar everyday scene for those living there in the 1970s. Due to the worst drought in history, all the pools in the parks turned into dry pits, but it was these parched pools that inspired a group of surf-loving boys (played by Stacy Peralta, Tony Alva, Jay Adams, etc.) to evolve their surfing techniques to the walls of pools, introducing safer and more reliable polyurethane wheels for skateboarding. Thus, the crucial component of extreme sports—the vert ramp skateboarding—was born. The boys called themselves the "Z-Boys" and as they transitioned from massive waves to abandoned piers to urban concrete wastelands, their dream of becoming professional surfers transformed into that of becoming professional skateboarders. Yet, the one thing that remained unchanged was their attitude of disdain for danger and death. The hardships of life forged their resilient survival mindset. Those small polyurethane wheels gradually surged into a wave of free-spirited sports aesthetics, leaving traditional skaters perplexed, while girls generously screamed their admiration.
