Joan (played by Andy Garcia) is an experienced detective, transferred from Los Angeles to a small town in California for duty. The town is shaken by a grisly dismemberment murder case, and Joan, along with his partner Gus (played by Lance Henriksen), becomes responsible for the case. During the investigation, Joan discovers that this is not just a simple murder; there have been several unresolved cases in the past, and the killer is likely the same person. According to the clues gathered, Joan identifies the victim as a blind girl named Amber, and he and his partner go to the blind school Amber attends. Based on the description from the blind teacher Helena (played by Uma Thurman), the suspicion gradually turns towards Joan himself, making him the prime suspect. Meanwhile, Gus tragically loses his life while on duty.
