The Lunar New Year film "Long Live Happiness," produced by Liang Zhiqiang, hired local newcomer director Chen Qiquan, who previously directed "S11," to take the helm. Co-directed with Zhang Jiarun, Chen Qiquan's ability to successfully achieve a box office of 3 million during the festive period under Liang's "guidance" has drawn significant attention. The script for "Long Live Happiness" took a year and a half to create, written in English and later translated into Chinese by the crew. In the past, Chen Qiquan and Zhang Jiarun's "S11" rushed through its release with a box office of only 2,229 yuan. In addition to valuing Director Chen's extensive advertising experience, Liang Zhiqiang saw his "commercial" potential since S11 implied S 11 = $. Furthermore, "Long" had a budget of 2 million Malaysian Ringgit (approximately 840,000 Singapore Dollars), breaking Liang's standard of spending no less than 1 million Singapore Dollars on his films over recent years, indicating an ambition for a big return on a small investment. "Long" is a romantic comedy that explores intergenerational relationships, focusing on three couples: one in their 40s who have been married for many years, and two others in their 30s and youth. Chen Mucheng (played by Cheng Xuhui), 52 years old, is a conservative and traditional middle-aged Chinese man. Due to his wife Jiali (played by Yang Yanyan) being busy with household chores, the couple often argues over trivial matters, causing Mucheng much distress. An unexpected opportunity gives Mucheng the motive for "infidelity"... Little does he know, Xuelian is not only not the man's dream lover, but rather his "nightmare"... Jeremy (played by Lin Derong), Mucheng's "god-brother," is 36 years old and considers himself charming, like a footless bird, wandering among different women every day. When he impersonates Mucheng to help Benny attend "Parents' Day," he encounters the graceful teacher Huang Meishi (played by Li Xinyi) and begins his pursuit. Just as he is about to win her heart, trouble arises! Benny (played by Liang Minghao), 17 years old, is a high school student, clearly a boy who has just discovered love and is full of curiosity and fantasy about romance. Benny is the target of his classmates' pranks, and his dance with his crush Jennifer (played by Aiwen) goes viral online, making him the male lead... The story uses Chen Mucheng, Jeremy, and Mucheng's son Benny to represent three age groups of men, exploring their perspectives on love and relationships, unearthing some thought-provoking insights, and of course, leading to a series of jokes. Any audience living in the conservative and repressive Eastern society will surely understand, empathize with, and resonate with the laughter and tears!
