A young girl named Sophie (Ruby Barnhill) lives in an orphanage and is always feeling down. One night at three o'clock in the morning, she is alone at the window watching the long night when she accidentally sees a huge giant (Mark Rylance). Once the giant is discovered, he panics and hurriedly grabs Sophie, running back to the land of giants. Fortunately, this giant, known as the Big Friendly Giant, lives up to his name; unlike others of his kind who eat "human beans," he feeds on fruits and vegetables, and he collects good dreams to deliver to children at night. This can be seen as a way to compensate for the violence of his kind. Perhaps it’s their shared sense of loneliness and kindness that helps little Sophie and the tall giant gradually become close and trust each other, becoming good friends without any barriers… This film is adapted from the famous children's literature by Roald Dahl.
