In Paris, middle-aged and unsuccessful uncle Thomas is abandoned by his girlfriend and returns to Hungary for recuperation, where he discovers the immature love poems he wrote in his youth. Memories are suddenly pushed back to the past. Why has the once romantic sea of flowers turned into a barren land? Why did the past "I love you" lead to breakups and farewells? Why has the once happy boy become a middle-aged man with a paunch? Thomas tries to find the reasons in his memories but realizes that all the joys and sorrows, all the love and hate in growing up, are merely precious insights into life. Perhaps love will fade, but youth is just a brilliant lame love poem.
