Kate (played by Kate Beckinsale) is a successful female lawyer who is climbing the ranks in her career but has failed miserably in her family and marriage. After the divorce, her husband gains custody of their daughter, and they live in Seattle. Unable to bear the pain of separation, Kate decides to fight for her daughter’s custody at all costs.   Kate takes on a particularly difficult case involving a woman named Lacey (played by Anna Anissimova), who is accused of murder but insists on her innocence, claiming she was raped in prison. Winning this case is crucial for Kate, and after facing many struggles, she finally secures a not guilty verdict for Lacey. However, Kate soon discovers that Lacey is actually a deceitful woman full of lies, leaving Kate torn between her future and the truth.
