In the future world, after the heartbreaking loss of his son, genius scientist Dr. Tenma (voiced by Nicolas Cage) creates the robot Astro Boy (voiced by Freddie Highmore) to serve as a replacement for his son, seeking comfort. Although Astro Boy possesses the emotions and memories of the doctor's son, and his advanced programming continually enhances his feelings, making him compassionate, the doctor can never accept the pain of losing his child and cannot treat Astro Boy properly, believing he is not human and ultimately abandoning him.
