The film focuses on the battle of Tieyuan's defense. In May 1951, the 63rd Army of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army had just finished a month-long operation when they were ordered to move to the Tieyuan battlefield, facing off against four divisions of the "United Nations Army." The volunteer soldiers fought courageously, eventually pushing the enemy to the negotiation table. To accomplish their mission, the soldiers of the 189th Division of the 63rd Army broke into small units, turning themselves into nails firmly embedded in the positions! On the position of the 1st Battalion, Li Xiang (played by Zhu Yilong), the battalion instructor, pledged that "we will not retreat even a step," fiercely defending the position; Amidst the relentless bombardment, Li Moyin (played by Xin Baiqing) is reunited with his family on the battlefield, and a key along with a meal shared in the trench makes this family, separated by war, even closer. To produce better weapons for the new China, returning military expert Wu Benzheng (played by Zhu Yawen), under the protection of Zhang Xiaoheng (played by Ou Hao), enters the battlefield. Zhang Xiaoheng, as a guard, firmly believes that protecting Wu Benzheng means protecting the future of the motherland.
