In 1919, during the Russian Civil War, Vassilis Kolovos's character, Spairos, flees the war with his wife, Thalia Argirioua's character, Daina, and their two children, eventually arriving in Greece amidst a wave of refugees. Years later, Russian refugees gather to form a small village called "New Odessa." Spairos's adopted daughter, Alexa ndra Aidini's character, Eleni, grows into a charming young woman and gives birth to a pair of twins with her beloved, who is also her non-biological brother, Nikos Poursanidis's character, Alexis. To escape her adoptive father's control and domination, Eleni begins an endless flight with her lover. By 1936, the family finds temporary stability. In pursuit of his musical dream, Alexis says goodbye to his wife and children to head for America. Following this, war dominates the world, destroying Eleni's hard-earned family life. Against the backdrop of tumultuous times, they drift along, facing separation and loss... This film is the first part of the "Greek Trilogy" and won the FIPRESCI Prize at the 2004 European Film Festival.
